The ‘ill’ is back!!!

Skrillex has been on tour for a minute so we haven’t heard anything for a while… til now. His remix of Benny Benassi’s “Cinema” is no less than epic. It grabs you instantly with a traditional dance/house intro, but of course, the ill eats this simply beautiful track and regurgitates it into a symphonic, horror film of sound (its like Avatar, 300, and Beauty and the Beast…in your ears). Another great job by Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex.

MORE NEW MATERIAL!!! The last song I heard from this duo (12th Planet and Skrillex) was “Father Said” which is one of my all time favorite songs. “Needed Change”isn’t a favorite yet but I’m sure it’ll push its way into my preferred listening.

A’Jack x Aoki

Don Chii: Steve Aoki (Dim Mak Records/promoter/dj) and Afrojack (Producer/dj) have teamed up to make another great record. Steve Aoki is known for producing tracks for Bloody Beetroots and other ‘hard-electro’ djs. I’ve always been a fan of his work because every song I’ve heard, with his name attached to it, has forced itself into my favorite playlists. I’m a huge Afrojack fan as well. He’s most recently known for his production of The Black Eyed Peas hit record “The Time” and his own “Take Over Control” feat. Eva Simmons. These two together equals absolut fire! Check the video and the link to their last project together.

Frank Sinatra Remixed

Don Chii: I’m the type of musicphile who bounces from genre to genre, thinking I’ve found my favorite, but I’ve come to terms with myself and concluded that the genre responsible for making me the intense music lover I am is music like this. Mixtapes like this Frank Sinatra Remixed by Apple Juice Kid remind me that my heart belongs to the 1970’s, underground, Bronx-born genre we’ve come to know as hip hop. The Apple Juice Kid is a DC-bred GoGo DJ/drummer/producer who recently produced one of Wale’s viral singles “My Sweetie,” and with four hundred and blah thousand hits I give “the kid” props. Although that single is a great song, “The kid’s” past three mixtapes are of a different feel. This type of music creates a sophisticated yet cool atmosphere that you can enjoy even if preoccupied in conversation.

My boy @quinnthenavajo put me on to AJK about a year ago with his Miles Davis Remixed and Louis Armstrong Remixed mixtapes. I was fond of the style right away, and here’s one of my favorite tunes from the two.

box mix one

Don Chii: I just got a new job at a performance venue called THE BOX. The Box is a venue in downtown Albuquerque that specializes in stand up, improv comedy, musicals, and other live artistic performance. They hired me to play music throughout their friday night improv shows. Not exactly the fantasy venue i’ve always wanted to rock but its a good start that can give me some practice. “Box mix one” is what I made for last weekend’s show and includes songs from the likes of pogo, waka flaka, two door cinema club, and a roksonix remix of imogen heap’s hide and seek (wutcha saaay!). I was surprised to see how many people showed up to The Box’s friday night performance, and the funniest group i saw there was called Starving Horse. So if you ever catch wind of these guys, take advantage of the opportunity to sit through 30 minutes of their co-ed, unfiltered comedy. Great entertainment for any night out, but… I’ll be there on friday nights playing mixes like this. Enjoy, I made this for people 🙂

Upular (Rynecologist Helium Rework) – Pogo
